Uhh....I just found out that there was a small tornado just a few miles away from me on Friday. About the time that there was a huge hail storm that crushed a few of our plants:

Update on the weather. With pictures and vids
Thursday, January 8th, 2009 03:45 pmOkay. So yesterday the library closed at 3, so I didn't have to come in (I start at 3). So, I went into town with Dad to do some last minute shopping and stuff. Walmart was insane. Line really long, departments shutting down early, and stuff being moved from the lower shelves. So we got in and out fairly fast, went looking for some foods, etc, and scoped out the low areas.
Went out again today to see how close into town we could get because a lot of the roads were closed (some guarded by police lol).

Friday, December 19th, 2008 04:51 amWell, so far we have gotten about 6-7 inches of snow. It is less than 20 degrees outside atm.
Wednesday, I only had to work a few hours, until 5, so we could all get home before the roads got too bad. Thursday, the library was closed. Friday, tbd.
I went out Wednesday and Thursday and took a bunch of pictures and a vid.

Okay, time to play catch up on what's been happening the last few days---
Yesterday was incredibly boring at work: There was hardly anything to shelve. On top of that, I was feeling kinda out of it--I blame it on the 4 hours sleep I had the night before, after staying up to watch All Over the Guy (Youtube trailer link here --Just watching the trailer makes me want to see if again LOL). I was originally only going to watch 15 minutes to see whether I would watch it later, or delete it. Was going to burn it onto a disk, but the burn screwed up (I blame a set of bad disks) so I went to buy it on Amazon ^__^
Anyway, my 'icky feeling' turned into a throbbing headache. I watched a movie with
michelleann68 and then crashed into bed at only 11:30. I was trying to lay on my side, but Ki wanted to lay on me---she ended up straddling my side, which was hilarious and very unconfortable, so I had to roll onto my back. Fell asleep as she was snuggling under the covers. Woke up at 4 with her sprawled on my back. Went the bathroom, then went back to sleep. Didn't wake up until 10:30. So for once I got a ton of sleep lol.
Today at work was also boring. I got there at 12, went to the post office to pick up the mail, then chatted to a guy (who has written some nonfiction books and was currently writing a novel) for about 20 minutes. So it was about 40 after when I started to shelve. I paused after I did half the books to ask Carol a reference question (she looked bored, lol), which took all of 5 minutes.
I was all done shelving by 2, so I took a 15 minute break (which lasted almost 17 minutes because I was reading a book and it was in the middle of a tense, yet hilarious, scene that I couldn't stop in the middle of.
So the last 2 hours were spent checking the book drop, shelving the bits and pieces of things that came in, chatting to coworkers and patrons, browsing books on the shelves, and straightening things. I was so happy to find a shelf of books that were in the wrong place--but it only took me 3 minutes to fix :'(
Moving on...or backwards:
Thursday I had a writer's group meeting (we meet a couple thursdays a month). The last meeting only 1 person was able to show up and I passed her a few chapters of my nano novel. She gave me feedback at this meeting. She seemed to like it, but gave me a few suggestions to make the pace move faster and gave me some great ideas of things to add. Turned it in to the others (yay, everyone showed up) and will see. One of the other gals keeps calling my tuff porn just because there is a m/m pairing in it *sigh* Kiss =/= porn.
Continuing on backwards:
Tuesday, I went to work early, so I could get off at 5 (instead of 8) because there was going to be a TGIO (Thank God It's Over) NaNo party at 6. Made a bunch of cookies the night before to bring.
About 12 people showed up, only a couple of them I knew from the few meetings I was able to attend, and one of them is in my writing group.
We chatted and played a few games while we waited for our leader--Liz--to show up. We made a card and signed it for her. She was a couple hours late.
After Liz arrived, we crowned our King and Queen: person who wrote the most, and our person who verified as the winner first on the NaNo site.
We drew names out of a hat for prizes-some books and goodies. We were able to almost go 2 rounds since there was tons to give away. The last item on the counter was a XXL NaNo 2006 T-Shirt that no one wanted. I was drawing the last name and I got myself. Even as a nightshirt, I doubt I could wear it *giggles*
I surprised myself by staying until the party broke up at 10. We took pictures around this table where the seats were so slow and soft that it was hard to get out of them again. If I ever get to see the pic(s), I'll post them up here.
We are planning on getting together on the 16th of January to read a bit from out novels and catch up. I don't plan to read--yet I have a feeling I will be forced into it. Uugh...I hate all forms of public speaking!
So. That has been my week.
Upcoming stuffs....
I might go see The Day the Earth Stood Still tomorrow--despite the neg reaction to Keanu. Then on Monday morning is the staff breakfast. Last year I couldn't go because I was in Seattle, plus it snowed a lot and only 2 people showed up. So as long as not too icy, I will go :-)
And...I think that is it.
Oh--First snow of the season this morning :D

Oh, Weather
Sunday, August 17th, 2008 03:14 amWe have been having thunder and lightening for the past couple hours, with maybe a 20 minute break earlier on.
Mindy has been freaking out:

and Mom has kicked her out of her room again. I let her back in after there was 20 minutes of silence, but then it started back up again. Had a couple minute-long downpours, too.
I went to the living room window and camped out with my camera, taking 10 minute video clips until I got a few flashes recorded.
Note: They are still processing, should be done soon.
And it has started raining again.

There have been severe thunderstorm warnings for a few spots here in Washington State. Most have been North of me and none of the warnings reached my area. Around midnight, there were small light flickerings, but I was listening to music and couldn't hear anything.
Now it is 4am and I can here some rumbling and it has been going on for awhile now. Mindy completely freaks out during storms and the 4th of July. She normally sleeps with Mom, but because of the freaking out, keeps panting and begging to be let out. So after 3 trips Mom made with her outside and trying to get her back to bed (over the course of 2 hours), I think Mom gave up. Mindy came into my room and when I went to return her to Mom's bedroom, the door was closed lol.
So I now have her in my room, door mostly closed to keep her from pacing back and forth, and it is about 4:30. Ki just pushed the door open and gave me a WTF? look. I went to grab her and she zipped off towards the bathroom. I closed the door, sat back down (to write this entry) typed one word and she opened it again. Rinse, repeat. Finally I let myself be led to the bathroom so she could get her fresh tap water. She just finished a minute ago and strolled back in like she owns the place (she does) and is now on the back of my chair. Was, she just hopped off.
Welcome to catering for critters, can I help you?
Here is Mindy near the door, panting. She jumped when the flash went off

and she zipped over next to my chair:

Now...she is really going to freak out when I leave the room so I can get dressed for bed. Oi. Sleep will be fun.

Strike or no strike, I just have to report that IT. IS. SNOWING.
It hardly ever snows this late and definately not without some sort of notice. Not like it is sticking or anything. Just got up to heat my bucky for the cat and I got my answer to why we were both cold.
Seattle trip tomorrow :D :D
...I still need to pack. *Looks at empty bag*

More flood news
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007 09:53 pmThe water is slowly going down and is gone from my routes. Traffic in town is insane since the freeway is still closed. At my exit, 72, it looks like that is the first exit to open South.
But it was so wierd seeing no traffic at all on the freeway. I tried to get a picture, but my camera battery died.
McDonalds is back open (I went inside for some fries)
I wanted to go down towards Walmart and see if there was still water, but due to traffic everywhere, I just went home (well...two little detours...McDs and a road that always floods that had just reopened)
When I got home, I called Pizza Hut and Dominoes Pizza, and both are fine and open (yay!).
( Here are a couple pictures that I took from news footage: )

Well, it has been pouring down water since Saturday night. And it won't stop. I think this is the worst it has been for a long while.
Backing up a bit, a friend of Mom's had been having house problems...they had been building a new house around their old one, since they weren't cleared to tear down the old and put a new-new one in there. So a bunch of people kicked her and her hubby out of the house and went ahead with the project since they had been working at it themselves for almost a year and had run out of water. Super nice looking...high ceilings, fans, very soft carpet, and new furniture.
Well, the water is to her garage now and there is a small leak in the ceiling :( Ack.
We are supposed to be getting some high winds this afternoon, and might lose power. Joy.
I took some pictures of the back of our yard:
