Heath Ledger's sudden death has been especially tough on his good friend – and Brokeback Mountain costar – Jake Gyllenhaal.

The actor, who is godfather to Ledger's two-year-old daughter Matilda, has been devastated by last week's news. Says one Gyllenhaal friend, "Jake is taking this harder than most people."

Nowhere is that more apparent than on the New Mexico set of Gyllenhaal's latest movie, Brothers.

"This has had a strong personal effect on [Jake]," says a set source. The insider adds that Gyllenhaal left the set immediately after learning of Ledger's Jan. 22 death – but he flew back on a commercial flight to shoot an additional scene on Thursday.

"He was there, but he wasn't with us. It was obviously a major trauma," says the movie source. "These guys were very close. [Jake] was sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."

Gyllenhaal has been off since shooting that scene, and was photographed Saturday looking subdued with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon in Los Angeles. Set sources say director Jim Sheridan is shooting around the grieving actor during his personal leave.

The 27-year-old's somber mood is a sharp contrast to the happier times on the set of Brothers. During one intense early prison scene, Gyllenhaal jokingly reached into his pocket and took out a picture of his Brokeback beau to stick on the prison wall. "Like those prisoners put [loved ones] on the wall, but Jake's was Heath Ledger," one set source recalls. "That was hilarious. It was a nice moment."

The source adds, "When you think back on it now, it's touching."

Well. I went to graduation and it was decent. No major screw-ups. My friend, who was graduating and had to give a speach, was very funny and entertaining. But I will blab more on that at some later point if I am in the mood.

I got a shock at Graduation. Mr. Schwartz, the band director, is now going to be teaching at Yelm because it is much closer to where he lives (He had to commute over an hour to school).
*deep breath*
This felt like a punch to the gut. I've known him for over 12 years. Hell, he is one of the main reasons why I love band so much and why I continued to play at the games and at graduation for 5 years after I graduated.
I went over to talk to him after graduation was all over with. He thanked me for all the years I've helped out (shit, I have had better pep game attendence than the students do). I almost bit a hole through my lip trying not to lose it in front of him.
He told me that he might show up for next years graduation since he knows most of the kinds. I bet he won't, but I am going to show up in the off chance that he will.
Been sobbing on and off for the past 7 hours and came close to throwing up twice. Shit, just typing this...
Don't know if I will play at any games next year...it just won't be the same. I do want to check out his replacement and introduce myself as the crazy band student who wont go away.

I was digging through my photo album and came across a picture I took of Mr. Schwartz. He hated pictures, so this is the only one besides yearbook pictures that I have. I might try to scan one of them sometime.

Anyone else find Prison Break to be more intense than 24 last night? I was a nervous twitching wreck by the end of the episode!

Some of you may know where I got my username, mosst probably don't or don't remember...
Back in 2001, SeaQuest was my main fandom and I joined a yahoo group called ELF_fanfic The ELF standing for 'Evil Lucas Fan' because we tortured the poor boy to death in stories. Most of the people I knew back then are still posting, and I read an occassional story. Since I have been a member, we lost a treasured writer there about 5 years ago, JB--who played Lucas--a couple years ago, and, Sunday, we lost the person that I most associated with the elfers due to a surgery complication.
