Hope everyone had a great Christmas/Holiday.
I have a handful of little things to babble about, so thought I would toss them all together in one post. Maybe you'll find something interesting here? lol
--I was just reading a blog entry about what books the blogger couldn't finish reading. And she gave this quote:
To my mind, the true sign of a great work of nonfiction is its uselessness; it should enthrall even when it has no practical application or even relevance to one’s own life and problems.
This. So much. Many times I have found myself nose deep in a nonfiction book about a subject I have no interest in, but the way it was written made me unable to put it down for long.
--I spent about 6 hours in the kitchen making brownie cookies (thin and crunchy and yummy) and two batches of cinnamon swirl bread for coworkers and any friends I happen to run into during the next few days.
--Congrats all on the world not ending :) I had to work early the next day, so I couldn't stay up for the countdown (was supposed to 'end' at 3:11 pacific time). I went to bed about 2:30 and had a hard time going to sleep. Just about when I started drifting off (around 3am I think), the septic alarm went off and scared the shit out of me. It is right by the bedrooms in the back of the house and the noise sounds like the deep warnings on a submarine (Beeeeepppp Beeeeeeepppp Beeeeeeepppp). So that was a jump start I didn't need.
--The next day, we had a 'celebrating surviving the end of the world' party where we read some stories we wrote. I read some of my NaNo novel, which was about the end of the world. I started out by saying that I lost motivation with it because if we see 2013, then the novel would be redundant. And if the world ended...there was no point in stressing through November lol. So screwed either way!
--I saw The Hobbit again on Sunday. This time in 2D. It was just as good the second time as it was the first. And I think I enjoyed it even a little more. 2D was way better than the 3D, sad to say. Anything involving the birds was awesome in 3D, and that was all I missed. It was such a busy movie that making the foreground pop out at you completely buried the background.
--There was a spider in the bathroom (they always end up there), and it was running across the ceiling. I cautiously went to sit on the toilet, thinking it was funny looking as it ran across the ceiling overhead....then all of a sudden it dropped straight down at me. I fell off the toilet to get away from it *sigh* (which scared it back up to the ceiling).
--You know how there is no such thing as too much candy? Yes there is and I think I have reached that point. Uugh.
--I've been writing a fic where Sherlock has been blinded and, out of curiosity, I decided to see how long I have been working on it. 11 months. *winces* Though it is about 14k words so far and I finally know where I am going with it. Been sharing it to several critique/writing groups, and needing to submit part of it every few weeks has been my motivation for writing any of it, so cheers for Critique Groups :D
--I am so excited for the new Star Trek movie that I'm trying to limit thinking about it. May!!! Uugh! *whimper*
--I signed up for Reddit Gifts Exchange and got an adorable blue kitty bracelet....But I also got something else - a kitty keychain. Did anyone here send it to me? As far as I know with RedditGifts, you only exchange one thing. This had no note and came from Hong Kong. On the address, it had my name, then c/o evila_elf, which is exactly what the first Gift had said and the reason why I think it came from there.
No sender name either, just address. So confused!
--I am addicted to a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game) called Shaiya. The chat system is annoying and very hard to read, so I've not really played with anyone yet, but the quests are like endless and there are so many different levels of worlds. Took about a day to download it, but worth it so far :D
...I think that mostly covers things :)
