Unprofessional teachers

Okay, I've mentioned before that I am taking college classes online. Normally the teachers are great and I've had a few that I loved so much I wrote a goodbye note to them on the last day of class.

But one of the ones I have this semester is annoying me. We have these discussion posts every week where we have to answer a question/talk about it, then post two responses to other students. The teacher sometimes asks questions to get people talking. But she has this habit of doing the triple question marks and random all cap words to add emphasis.
One of her e-mails to the class about discussion posts:

***As a reminder if I reply to your weekly discussion post YOU ARE EXPECTED TO REPLY BACK BEFORE SATURDAY NOON of the corresponding week!
(This is in addition to replying to another student's post. This DOES NOT REPLACE replying to another student's !!!) ***

And she was all annoyed that people weren't following instructions for the last assignment, which said to list references, when she really meant that they needed to be in APA format (every other class I have taken always specifies for them to be in that format). She was nice enough to let people redo things to get some points back, but I e-mailed to nicely point out the reason people probably got confused and she got all defensive. *headwall*

Sorry, feeling bitchy and needed to rant.

Where to start, where to start. Guess at the beginning...

Since it was Sunday, I need to be in at work at 12:30 at the Centralia library. So, naturally, I slept in and had to rush around to get myself ready to leave. I leave at 11:45 so I can get myself something to eat on top of my breakfast so I can make it until dinner at 6.
Actually, fairly ordinary so far...always rushed on Sundays.

Go to library on time and proceeded to wait and wait for someone to get there with the key. I am a lowly page, I don't get keys. Carol was waiting as well. Finally at a little after 12:30, someone showed and we filed in. We don't open until 1, so no biggie.
I imediately noticed a little puddle of water by the sink...what the Hell is it with me and finding water?? So, we opened the cabinet under the sink and it was a leaky mess from a slow leak. We got it cleaned up and propped a bucket under there.

By now, it was a quarter until opening. I normally let people into the foyer area to wait until we open up. Since it was so late, there were already quite a few people to let in, and I still had to get the bookdrop (normally I get it done by time people start to show). It was quite full, and there were kids trying to push each other in the open doorway. I threatened to kick them back outside, but that just amused them. I emptied half the drop before going back in, complaining I was close to loosing my mind. Carol was surprised because it normally takes a lot to rattle me.

Oh, backtracking a little...we find out that we only have 4 courier boxes to use for the day...when we normally use like 20. Peachy *sigh*
Courier boxes...we use them to put books in that are picked up to be sent to other libraries.
So, while I waited unil opening, I went into the back and started shifting the books already in boxes to try to make more room. Freed up 2 boxes and could have done more, but decided to wait.

Then I find out that Larry hasn't shown up. Some calling and we find that he is sick and we didn't get the message. So we called in Lew (who is much more fun). Those guys do every other Sunday. Felt bad that his Sunday was ruined. Got a few minute break to talk to him and he told me about this movie he saw...bah, can't remember title, but it was about these two girls who fall in love.

Where was I? Oh, yes. I went to do the RHA list--pulling books that people put on request, dreading with every book that I would have to find some room for them in boxes.

That took awhile. Did my 15 minute break, then started fiddling with getting things into boxes. Waiting to put away the requests until the end, since we could always leave them on the cart to be put away the next day. We also get tons of things brought in for other libraries...like a box worth apiece. So I did more shifting.

And people are slobs. If I would have seen someone messing up the shelves, I seriously would have thrown something at them. I found a couple shelves with holes where half a dozen books had been, and the books were stacked on top of the books on the bottom shelf. *fumes* Are they too stupid to realize where they got them from? And a lot of the CDs were flipped around so you couldn't read the label, and all in jumbled order. *sigh* So that took extra time cleaning up after them.

There were tons of things to shelve, but I only managed to shelve for a half hour (feel bad about that...more work for the pages the following day, and I don't want them to think I have been lazy). Oh, and the one cart I grabbed of books...it squeaked so bad! A high-pitched noise that made me cringe.

Normally we leave a little after 5, which is closing time, even though we are supposed to stay until 5:30. We stayed until 5:30 today...I was able to get all into the boxes, though I did have to swipe a couple from under the counter. Don't care if that pisses any one off. Hopefully more boxes arrive the next day.

Carol had no idea how I was able to get everything boxed up. Neither do I, actually. Felt like I was running non-stop the whole time I was out there.
Feel like I more than made up for not working next Sunday! Which reminds me...need to make sure that Jinny found someone to fill in for me. Still says a page is needed on the worksheet.

And the day doesn't stop there. At about 9-10, there was a sound that sounded like a building exploded! Some sort of firework, but it scared the crap out of the critters here. Then at about 11, things started up again...WTH?? It is 1:45 now and I just heard another bang! GO TO SLEEP PEOPLE!
Why is it that on the 4th of July, fireworks seem nice and happy, but on New Years, it seems like the world is ending out there? Has to be the noisiest fireworks I have ever heard!

Ick. Happy New Year everyone :)

House 'N' Things

Let's start with the 'N' Things first.
Tomorrow (or today if you want to get technical), I will be at the library because I was an idiot and volunteered to dress up as Curious George so little kids can get their pictures taken with me. My coworkers still can't believe I am doing it, they all know the lengths I go to avoid the little terrors.
So, stuffy full-body costume for an hour. I sure hope I don't get claustraphobic easily. We shall see.
Also, the costume hadn't arrived like it was supposed to (ie, at all) so hopefully it won't just be 'picture with Amy day.'

Okay, that out of the way: House time!
Why, the best episode this season and perhaps ever, and it takes me forever to do a write up on it? I don't understand myself sometimes.

Phone line fuckups

Well, here we go, amusing story, *grumble*

At around...11 something, the phone line that my computer it attached to died. No dialtone. There has been construction down the street that knocked out our other line a few days ago...but that was while they were actually working over there. So dunno what really happened.
Now, after the initial panic, I thought that this would be the perfect time to work on NaNo...no internet to distract me. So what do I do? I call [livejournal.com profile] michelleann68, since I was IMing with her and it is very rude to leave a conversation, and jabbered to her for...awhile. Well, until the cell phone battery died out. Thinking 40 minutes or so. The phone turned itself back on and I talked for another 5 until it was completely drained...hope I didn't kill it too badly.

After that, I set to work...I dug out the phone cord that the computer is using, which is quite long. My goal: to get it set up to the other phone line which is in the next room on the far wall. This cord only reached just past my door. I went to fiddle with the other phone, to see what was hooked up to what.
I have this phone line splitter thing...that I can plug in two lines into it, so I needed to find a way to get another phone cord from the second line to it and hope it worked.

20 minutes later (the cords were real tangled), I had a line from the second jack to the answering machine. The answering machine to the second phone. The second phone to an extra phone cord that was to an old phone we hadn't thrown away. And the extra cord to the splitter.
AND IT FUCKING WORKED!!
*happy dance* :D

Now, I hope the problem gets fixed tomorrow, because the string of objects connecting the two rooms will piss Mom off to no end ^.^

Headaches suck!
Had one that had been building since work. Got so bad that I turned on my electric blanket and laid down for awhile. I was tempted to just got to bed...but it would have been 5 hours earlier than I normally do. Which would mean that I would just wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning.
Mom came in a bit before she went to bed and covered me with a blanket. By that time the headache was almost gone, but I was too comfy, so I laid there for an extra half hour and fantasized about a H/W scene I was having a hard time putting to paper. I can visualize it real good, but the words are failing me.

Guess I can babble a bit...

A few weeks ago, we ate out at a restaurant for sign class. Where we weren't allowed to talk (like that really happened lol). I don't think I mentioned it, but it was a lot of fun. We were able to talk/sign decently. Lotta laughing.
Eventually I got bored and started playing with a dime I had in my pocket...flicking it on the table so it would spin around. I did that several times...once it got away from me and made a complete loop around my pop, like a U turn. My reaction: WTF cool!! (mental only) So I spent 20 minutes trying to get it to do that again, half the time sucessful. I looked up and realized I had an audience lol. I had a strange mental image that it might be something House would do to amuse himself ;)
So...yeah.

Any one interested in a dogtag? I wanted one from this library order thing, and had to buy them by the dozen. They say "Creature of Habit" on them. Not real heavy duty, but I don't have any other to compare to. The chain is beaded and actually quite pretty. I have about a half dozen to spare--1 per asker free and free shipping, don't matter if outside US.
Any takers?

*points at icon and smiles* :)
