Whew, barely got this done for the nightly update lol!

I was tempted to make the until-now unknown person just that, an unknown person, but I will be nice, this time :P

He looked more frightened than he had when she had found him, if that was possible. He sat up and leaned his back against the wall. “I was there at the fighting….trying to save, not kill.” The memories, both of the dream and of other events, started to return to him. “A friend, my best friend was there. A bomb---we got separated.” He looked to the corner where the medicine bag lay along side others, and Ian’s words came back to him. “Oh, shit,” he moaned as he ran this bound hands through his black hair…

With shaking fingers unbecoming a surgeon, he held the dogtags up to the fading light. He looked like he was going to cry. “These aren’t mine!”

“I don’t understand. Why have someone else’s tags?”

“We must have grabbed the wrong ones after we took them off.” He didn’t want to state the reason behind taking them off and was glad she didn’t ask.

“Then what is your name?” she asked when he lapsed into a long silence.

“Hawkeye.”

“Hawk eye,” she said the name slowly.

BJ couldn’t be dead…

“You slept through supper.” She again distracted him from his thoughts. “I keep soup warm. You want?”

Stomach growled in response and he reluctantly put BJ from his thoughts and nodded. The fact that he couldn’t believe that BJ was gone—refused to—helped. Once he got away and back to the mash, BJ would be there waiting for him…

Jo’an brought him a bowl of watered down soup. Then she sat down a short distance away, her rifle by her side, more to please her brother rather than for safety. “Is now your memory back?”

He nodded, waiting for the soup to cool. “I’m a doctor, a surgeon, at a Mash unit. We were heading back from an aid station when we heard bombs behind us. We figured, correctly, that the group of soldiers we had passed had been hit. We went back to try and help and,” he shrugged. “Now this.” He took a slow sip of the soup. It didn’t have much taste, but there were some rice and small vegetables floating around in it. “Why’s your brother so bitter towards us? Not that I can blame him much.”

“Like most of us, he has lost someone close to him.” She shook her head violently frowning. “We should have moved from here long ago…”

“The war would still be here.”

“But not for me. Can’t pretend it doesn’t exist from here.”

He had just finished the soup and passed the bowl to her when a loud noise at the door made them both jump. Ian had returned and collapsed just inside the doorway.

“Ian!” Jo’an screeched and dropped the rifle, rushing to his side.

BJ couldn’t be dead... I'm going with Hawkeye on that. BJ is out there somewhere, and since I was right about the 'mystery person' aka Hawk, I hope I'm right this time.

Love the nightly updates, no matter how long or short they are. I don't care how long the little bits are really, it's a very nice treat to have something longer when you've been inspired. In a way, posting in short bits is better. The story is slowly revealed, like peeling an orange bit by bit instead of in large chunks.

Toodles.

I try to write until I reach a nice place for a cliff hanger.
Hope that the nightly updates continue to be nightly.
Glad ya like :) Thx for comments :D

Ah! I -- ah! Stop doing that, you're going to send me into cardiac arrest, or shock, or something else worthy of a quick trip on an ambulance. When I suddenly drop off the face of the livejournal earth, we'll all have you to blame. *grins*

Right. The story. Oh my god! I love the sudden surprise, and I was not expecting it. I am a bit confused as I was under the impression this started with Hawkeye's body being carted into the 4077th, but maybe I am thinking of another story. Anyway, I love the shocking twist, and I love the cliff-hanger attached to this. Not to mention you explained Ian's hatred quite nicely.

I must stop, or I never will get myself to. Stunning job -- I really enjoyed this.

Farewell.

Hehe :) Thx for replies :)
Ya were lead to believe that Hawk was dead by the bloody dogtags that arrived at the 4077th...Hawkeye had on BJ's tags...so, now the question is if BJ was wearing Hawkeye's.
Amuses me--first everyone was thinking that Hawkeye wasn't dead, then one by one started thinking that we were following what was happening with BJ.
You'll get rid of half of the LJ-ers with the drool-worthy pics, and I will take care of the rest :P
BTW, headache gone :D
