I watched Boy's Don't Cry last night.
Get this--On the back of the box, all it says about it is:
A riveting story about hope, fear, and the courage it takes to be yourself, BOYS DON'T CRY is "One of the 10 Best Films of 1999". Critically acclaimed and nominated..... blah blah.

I had stumbled across the story of Brandon Teena on livejournal and had wanted to see this movie. Found it at the library a week later. It sat on my desk for awhile because I knew it was going to be depressing as hell to watch.

Here's the trailer:

Hilary Swank was awesome as Brandon.
And yes it was depressing. Not a good movie to see right before bedtime. But, luckily, I dreamed of the cake I ate earlier that day rather than the movie!

And this movie (which is a true story) completely reinforces that people suck :(

That movie was so upsetting. I think what upset me most is the scene at the end, where he shoots the woman, right in front of the baby. I know it was all based on a true story. But it was still so upsetting.

Hilary Swank was impressive.

Yeah, that was one of mine too. Maybe the bathroom scene a bit before that.

I wish we could put down bad humans like we do with dogs that bite people

We do. It's called the death penalty. Unfortunately, it puts us in a position to exercise judgement over our peers. Who is worthy of passing judgement on someone, saying they deserve to die? I'm not sure any of us are.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you. I think there are some people who deserve to die. I'm just glad I'm not the one who is in a position to make that determination.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. It's just so frustrating!

Also because it's much cheaper to kill them than it is to keep them in a cell. I think prisons are failing to rehabilitate people. They just hold them there and then let them go. What is that supposed to change?
