Blackberries

Wow, I am surprised that I have been able to keep up with posting a pic a day...even if most of the posts are boring, strange, or a combination of the two lol

Yesterday, I went out to see if I could find any blackberries. Found some wild trailing ones around the place and was going to check on the Himalayan and evergreen ones that are under the power lines. Dad hates for me to wander anywhere with out him *sigh* so he went with.
The Himalayan ones were just starting to get ripe and I found about 3 of them.
And a cherry tree that had most of the lower ones picked.

My 'catch':
Trailing blackberries, 3 Himalayan blackberries, and 1 cherry

Have to go to bed early (as in 5 minutes ago--oops) because working in Winlock from 11-4, then my own job at 5-8. Sad that I get about 3 bucks more an hour to stand around behind a desk when as a page I hurry around with armloads of books and barely make over minimum wage *sigh*

book finds

I made a nice 'haul' today with finding things in books. Normally I am lucky to find 2 things a week.

Also, the position at the new library is open to hire. Got the application. Uugh, I hate filling these things out!
There are probably going to be a thousand people trying for the position. The pay is 15k a year...

Worked for 4 hours on Saturday. I got the joy of getting the bookdrop. It was a bit full, but I didn't want to make two trips to I filled up out courier box super full and got everything. A lady came behind me and asked if I needed help--I jumped because I hadn't heard her lol. Box wasn't too heavy, but a bit bulky. To get back down to the library, there are these two sections of stairs. As I headed down the first, I missed the last step--so much fun thinking you are about to step on solid ground and end up not.
Managed to keep a hold on the box while falling to one knee and banging it up against the wall. Only managed to hurt my leg a little and it acted up through out the rest of my shift. A few minutes after, I asked Lou if he had heard anything. Naturally he said no. Oi. Could have broken my neck and no one would have noticed lol.

So after work, I went to see Hancock. Showed 40 minutes after I got off, so excellent timeing. It was better than I expected. I had heard some crappy reviews from it. Aside from the one OMG they DIDN'T!!! O.O scene (if you saw it, you should know what I am talking about), it was pretty good, and I enjoyed the nice twist towards the end.

A month or so ago, there was this online promotion thingy where you could order a button 'promoting' your favorite show. I naturally put down for the House one. Well, I got it today (because no one remembered to get the mail yesterday), and actually, I got all of them. Eh? I remember that the default button was set to the first one...I wonder if that caused some problems so they decided to give every one all of them....or am I just spechul? ;)
Anywho, here is a pic of them all:

My day today

Friday, May 30th, 2008 12:10 am
evila_elf: (QAF-Screen Name has more fun)
I am feeling chatty, so here we go.

Went to bed at about 5am. I really need to stop that. Since Mom was off doing something and Dad just didn't care, I didn't wake up until 12:30 and stayed in bed until 1.

I did have a very interesting dream. Dream here )

Moving on, I watched an hour of TV while eating breakfast and doing my online stuffs, then at 2 I ran to get dressed, ate a small lunch, and was out the door by 2:30 (work at 3). I briefly thought about bringing my camera, because I have been meaning to get some shots of the new library building going up.

When I got to work, 10 minutes to spare and ready to settle in to read until my shift, Jan J. popped in the break room and said Corine (boss) was giving tours of the new library. So I dropped everything and hurried on over, meeting two other coworkers heading back (we can't all leave the building at the same time, hehe). I chatted with Corine while we waited for 2 more peeps to show up.
There were construction workers everywhere. I was surprised at how many windows we have in that building, and they are huge windows. It feels way bigger on the inside than it looks on outside. Low ceiling over the circulation desk so we can hear people better, and high ceiling everywhere else. Large print will be by a window (yeah, for extra sunlight) and we will have a digital fireplace to one side. Got to see position of the drivethrough window. Corine proudly announced where the coffee pot will be set up at. We got a nice description of our staff lounge, and I just had to comment that I will probably be showing up to work an hour early so I could hang out there because it sounds so damn neat.

Damn I wish I had brought my camera!!!! UUgh!

Nothing else exiting happened and the day ended 8 minutes ago.

Oh, one more thing...our refridgerator is making a eeping/pulsing sound every 3.5 minutes (the type I would associate as a softer version of shutdown/warning red-light flashing alarm). Any ideas? Our owner's manual doesn't have any mention. It is driving us crazy!

Working in Winlock. Very slow today. Here from 9:30 until 5. 4 hours to go atm. About 90 degrees outside. Nothing too much (at all) to do right now. Occassional patron comes in (haha, 2 just walked in as I typed that). Most of them use the self-checkout, so they don't need me at all *sob*

I'm hungry...I hope Joren takes his lunch break soon so I can take mine after ^_^

Yeah...I've been bad lately ;) (With posting, that is)

Been a few little interesting things here and there, but I have been feeling anti-social, even though I could make a post in about 5 minutes.

So here is a bunch of randoM stuff from the past...week?

Starting with today/yesterday:
Cut because was getting a tad long:

Library

Saturday, December 15th, 2007 02:45 am
evila_elf: (Animated--Stephen Hello)
As some of you may remember, the temporary library location where I work at is in the basement. Main floor is City Hall, and the floor above is being worked on. Wednesday, I was working 5 extra hours in the morning, filling in for a coworker. The upstairs was being worked on. The guys decided to use contact cement for some project. Long story short, we almost had to close down for the day because the fumes were making everyone sick and gave us all headaches. So we got all the doors proped open and it dropped below 60 degrees in the building and we had to put on coats. Hour of breathing that stuff before it finally went away. We were appologized to a bunch, so that is something, I guess.

What else....
--One of my coworkers' car got backed into. Thankfully there was only a scratch on the bumper, but there was glass all over by her car.

--Our computers went down for about 15 minutes

Joy :-/ Not the best of days.

And today/yesterday, whatever, we had a staff meeting at 8:30. Set alarm for 7:30. Went to bed about 1....tossed until 3 something....and woke up at 7. *grumbles*

Boring update

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 02:21 am
evila_elf: (House-RSL--Guitar B&W)
Well, might not be too boring...all depends I guess.

Wow...over 2 weeks since I have updated. Yes, I fail. Speaking of, gave up on NaNo yet again this year. Was stuck around 2200 words. Doubled from last year I guess. I got sidetracked by RPS writing, then a Cake fic (none of which have gotten finished yet). I was looking back over a few things in the past I have written, and I can't believe I wrote them. Not that they were bad, but that they actually seemed better than what I am doing now. Kinda depressing. I need to take nots from myself, methinks.

I haven't really jabbered about this, but I have been a huge fan of the play Bare: A Pop Opera for several years now...or more. Recently, an album was finally put out that includes the whole play--since like 90% of the thing was sung--and this even includes the dialogue bits and a bonus DVD. Not the original cast except for the gal who played Ivy. I got mine sent to me a few days ago and I can. Stop. Listening. To. It. Thrilled about that.

My last paycheck was like 4 times the amount that I normally make since I worked 40 hours one week and 38 the next to cover for a coworker who had a death in the family. Not sure if I liked doing 8-10 hour days, but the money was sure worth it. Schedule is all normal until December.
I work 5 hours every Sunday in winter, and also in December, the place I work is getting new carpeting, so it will be closed most of the month. I still have no idea if I will be working those Sundays there or not...I was told that we may be used to help clean up, etc. I hope so--50 odd bucks plus I am nosy and want to see what is going on ^.^

What else....
We now have a Walgreens next to Walmart. Went there first time today. Found out I can order digital prints online from them for cheaper than anyplace else. Also that they have life sized stuffed dogs for 10-20 bucks. Would take up a corner of my bedroom, but I still want one lol.

I picked up a few decorations for my room. Got a plastic bunch of Pointsetta flowers that I broke apart to...stick places. I have some green garland pieces left over from a few years ago that I drapped over the top of my bookselves. Strunh a few flowers in there and it looks pretty good. So cluttered around here that I can't do much else. Might buy a mini tree to something *shrugs*

I met with [livejournal.com profile] michelleann68 at McDonalds Thursday as she passed through to visit family for TGing. Had a nice chat and she had bought a present for Ki--a stocking filled with cat toys--to replace the ones lost in The Bug Incident*.

*The Bug Incident--Ki's box where we keep some catfood, random toys and other stuff we don't use any more--I had puleld out one of her burried toys to find these little bugs crawing all over it (naturally I squeaked and dropped it). After stalling for over a week--yes, I didn't want to go in there--I hauled the box outside and started digging. I had seen the same bugs when, at the other house, Mom used to leave Mindy (house dog)'s food lying in the ground. It attracted all these bugs, that looked like half-sized pill bugs, and we had to stop doing it.
I had no idea how long they had been in there. Pulled out several bags of food that hadn't been opened, and a couple toys and a brush that were on top.
Mom likes to buy these pouches of soft cat treats and she leaves them open because she has a hard time opening them. Didn't t ake long before I found a pouch filled with those bugs (I am cringing as I type). So I tossed all the open packages, then poked around until I could get to the bottom of the box. And ewww...there was like an inch of dead bugs in the bottom. I refused to try to save anything else (except a bouncy ball that looked semi-clean) and tossed the box in our field so Dad could burn it.
So. Now we have a smaller box, and I need to make sure Mom doesn't go overboard with buying treats faster than we feed Ki. I also got another small box for toys, since Ki now has more than she knows what to do with. She looked very confused when I dumped all the toys at her paws. Been playing with her a lot the past few days. As I walked over to Pea (laptop) a little bit ago, she was on my bed and reached out to snag my shirt, asking me to play lol.

That was more than I wanted to remember about The Bug Incident.

House--Loved last week's. First time in a long while that I enjoyed a POTW. Too bad he was unconscious for most of the last half. I am thinking that that is why House hasn't been as good lately--the POTW's are all boring and I don't care if they live or not.
But I was hoping that, for the one time that it was Lupis, that it would be more...dramatic?

...I think that is all....

NaNo and work

evila_elf: (House-RSL--Guitar B&W)
1529 words.

Got about 400 words written during my lunch break at work. The library is my favorite thinking space. So much better than home in some instances.

Oh, and something fun a few days ago while at work...A lady was looking for some books on photo editing. Naturally, with our limited and cut back selection, we had none. So I jabbered at her a bit, trying to find out what she wanted done with picture(s). She had said that she mainly wanted a few seperate effects, like blurring out just certain bits. So I suggested that she make two copies of whatever file she wanted, blur the double completely, then just cut out the bits from the double and paste to the original as needed.
That was how I created the original icon that I am using. So my photomanips have come in handy. She spent several minutes thanking me for that tip. Made me happy for like the rest of the day.

My week

evila_elf: (Alan-Thumbs up death to you)
Nutty. Well, that is one word to describe it. Coworker--the one who is one position up from me--her stepmother passed away, so I had covered her hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. Also Wednesday, there was this 'Groundbreaking' ceremony not too far away to celebrate the work on the new library. I was asked if I wanted to go. I said 'Naw' and ended up working for 3 hours that night because they couldn't find anyone else to fill in. And there were only 2 of us working. It was so dead that I read and wrote for a bit, until we got a patron that came in.

And today, Thursday....oi. I had training up at the Service Center in Tumwater (40 minutes away). Had to get up at 7 (and I woke up 10 minutes before my alarm...which always seems to happen when I set it). I don't drive freeway, so Dad took me. I wanted to get there a half hour early because a friend Carron, works there sometimes and today happened to be one of those days, and she was due to work about the time my class started, so I was hoping she was early, and she was :D I was chatting with the lady at the front desk when Carron walked in. I followed her down to the mail room and we just jabbered about things. She has been fostering kittens for the animal shelter and was telling me about the 5 that she currently has---awww!

Okay. about the class. It is Referrence Effectiveness, where it tells you how to be a better referrence person and how to talk to patrons. I want to cry. It is the stupidest load of crap I have had to sit through. All that I have 'learned' could have been summed up in a half an hour. There were about 18 other people in the class and I could tell most of them felt the same way.
See, when a person comes up to the desk, they have this 'form' response that they want you to say.
Example:
Patron: "I am looking for the book, Where the Red Fern Grows"
Librarian: "Let me see if I understand you correctly. You are looking for the book Where the red fern grows. Is that correct?"
Patron: DUH Yes, that is what I am looking for.

There were even videos where they showed us the librarian being (sickingly) nice, and even one with a little boy who was so obviously saying rehearsed lines. Hell, NO one is that polite! And yes, I am ranting.

So, most of the day was spent going over that (as well as a few pointless activities like coloring a name plate with symbols that represented you and discussing it in groups--WTF?)

We were in the middle of examples after lunch--I was dazed, almost asleep, and still in a happy place from the book I had been reading--when one of the guys in the class raised his hand and complained at how unnatural the conversations sound and what the odds would be that we would really be talking like that. He talked for almost 10 minutes and I could tell the instructor was getting a little pissed. But hell, I was now awake and trying not to grin like an idiot. After they got 'back on track,' I looked around and there were a lot of people smirking.

Then we get together in groups of three for 'practice.' One person had to be Librarian, one Patron, and one....someone who noted the performance (there are actually forms in case a librarian wants an evaluation on how s/he answers a question.
So, my group, guy named Patrick, a girl whose name started with a T, and me. They hated this as much as I did, so we had a little fun with it. We were supposed to ask the 'evaluater' how we did, and Patrick liked to say we were crappy. I got in a gigglefit so bad I was crying over something I can't remember now.

And something to point out...the weather. We were due up for a big storm and the wind was already whipping around. We could hear it and see it through the blinds. I heard some popping (prob unrelated to storm) and whispered to my table that it sounded like machine gun fire. Another lady whispered back to 'duck and cover.'

So, while we were in our group trios, the lights flickered and I could hear people hopeing for a power outtage. When we were nearly done in our groups, the lights did go off, and there was a collective yay! Then the lights went back on and everyone awwww'ed, then it went off again and there was yay. (yayyyyawwwwwyayy!!)And they stayed off. It was about 2:50 or so. Our instructers weren't even in the room, lol. Eventually, they returned and said that they heard the outtage was from a tree falling and that power not back until much later, so they were closing the service center. And we get paid for the missed hour (class was until 4).

I had to call home and was lucky enough to catch Dad and asked him to come early and fetch me. I hung out by the doors and pretty much watched the building empty. After a half hour (I appointed myself door person and yanked open the sliding doors for people), they were closing up the doors so I had to go outside. Wind was freaky. Dad was there a few minutes later and was saying how the wind was pushing the car about on the freeway, eep.

Stopped by the Winlock library because I accidently ordered something and had it sent there. I was chatty so talked to everyone for 10 minutes.

Tomorrow is more of the same. Then I have one more day of this training next month. Talking to someone at Winlock and the training is mostly about how to talk to people *sob* I want to know how to find the freaking answers to what they are asking!
Maybe it is just that I have been here 4 years and don't give a rat's ass about formality and proper way to say things as long as it gets the question answered and the patron leaves happy.

I hear next year that the class will be revamped. Whatever they change, it HAS to be better.

Best thing was the people. You tend to bond with people when you have a common hate. Sadly, I will probably never see these guys again after training. They are from libraries that are all over, and none close to where I am at.

Sorry for the rant. Dad got an earful (2 actually) on the way home about the crappy class, too.

All Staff Day 2007

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 02:57 am
evila_elf: (House--Animated Wilson Just looking at y)
Well, I survived my 4th All Staff Day. It is getting easier each year, recognizing more and more people. I got to chat with Alicia some. She was in one of the training classes I went to a few months ago, and she had just started her job real recently.
We left at 8am, carpooling, to get to Lacey, which was the same location as last year. I kinda like the spot. Not too far away (30 minutes) and a good sized area.

After we signed in, we got raffle tickets to use in a few prize drawings.

There was a bookcart and several boxes filled with advance copy books that had been stockpiled for a good half a year. Those were free and up for grabs. I made several trips to browse around throughout the day, and snagged 5 of them. Also, after the prizes were drawn (I didn't win), some people didn't like the books that they got, so they tossed them on the cart. And someone tossed a tarot deck there! I immediately snatched it up. Unfortunately, there was no book with it. I looked over the deck when I got home and it is absolutely gorgeous. Better than the other two I have. There are some pics here: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/gilded/
That was definately worth the trip!

Okay, a rundown of what all I did:

We had a welcoming speech and talked at a bit about what was going on at all the libraries. Chehalis got a mention, because we are getting a new building.

Then one of the key speakers started talking. Apperiently he has written some nutrition books or something. He was all telling us about reading labels and serving sizes. And how some things are misleading, like the 2% milk isn't really just 2% fat, etc. He talked for an hour, complete with powerpoint presentation. After 30 minutes, it started to feel like we were being lectured at. When he said something about too much cheese being bad for you, our whole table became hungry for cheese.

After he was done, we got to go to our first of 2 sessions that we had signed up for a few months back. I went on a library tour. Aside of it being great to stretch the legs (it was a bit of a walk) it was boooring. We didn't spend any time in the stacks, just looking at the rooms and artwork (some of the paintings looked like they were painted by an artistic 2 year old). The most impressive thing was the study rooms. Most had windows in them that had a spectacular view. Would be an awesome place to just sit and write write write. You can check out the rooms so that you are the only person in one. Pity I don't live closer.

We broke for lunch after that and visited around some more. There were stands along one wall, or advertising and freebies. I bought a on sale Timberland Library purple T-shirt. I always wanted something with our logo on it. Was only 7 bucks. Almost too small for me since they didn't have a medium. I also got 3 pens from various locations, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a stress test card (where you press your thumb to it and see what color it changes to) and...something else. I also could have gotten a toothbrush, but I had enough crap that I was clutching.

Then we had our second session. Mine was with Megan Chance. The description for that session reads:
Award winning historical novelist Megan Chance speaks on research, fiction, and the crutial role of the library in the pursuit of her dream to become a published author. Megan, who lived in Olympia as a young girl, has many fond memories of leaving the OL library with armloads and armloads of books.
She was fascinating to listen to. She has written 11 books so far, and does tons of research. She has an old library card catalogue filled with index cards of info. She doesn't write the sort of books that I read, but I purchased her newest one anyway and got it signed since I enjoyed listening to her.
3 our of 4 years I managed to purchase something and get it signed. :D

After that we all had another speaker, Joe Kane. It was amazing. This is from a webpage:
In 1985, writer Joe Kane set out with eight others to navigate the length of the Amazon. Some were expert kayakers, and others—like Kane—were novices. They descended deadly rapids that had never been run and camped in steep canyons where boulders rained down from above. They endured the attentions of poisonous snakes, Shining Path guerrillas and narcotraficantes. Four thousand two hundred miles later, only two members of the group—Kane and Piotr Chmielinski—emerged into Brazil's Marajo Bay to taste the salt of the Atlantic. Running the Amazon chronicles their adventures in thrilling detail with humor, honesty and warmth. The excerpt below tells the story of their encounter with the first big water of the trip. They are running the Apurimac, or"Great Speaker,": which the Incas considered their most powerful oracle — speaking to them through thundering rapids. Kane writes that during the rainy season, the roar of the rapids can be heard from miles away. . .
He only had time to talk about half of his journey, but he had a ton of pictures on a slideshow. I wish that there was some way to capture that speech. I should have bought his book, but I was low on money. Regretting that now. Each table had a chance to win a copy....combine our birthdate day and month. Who ever was lowest won one. Mine was 31. Bleh! Lois won at our table.

We also had auctions at some point. A wild blackberry pie went for over 50 dollars.

Then we had employee recognition...new employees stood, awards were handed out. I think I get recognized next year for being there 5 years...or the following year..

Then there were grand prize drawings, for like a vacation package. I never win anything lol.

Then goodbyes and home.

oooh, on the way to the freeway, there was this crazy squirrel...it was running around in circles on the sidewalk. It darted out into traffic and almost got flattened before running back to the sidewalk. It was in panic mode. I think it got stranded on the sidewalk and was freaking out....was a busy bumper to bumper road, 2 lane highway. Bet it didn't live long :-/

So that was my 8 hour day on Monday ^.^
evila_elf: (House-RSL--Guitar B&W)
Well, today was my first Sunday at Centralia library for the fall. Okay, that sentence hurts my eyes lol. October-May I work Sundays.

So, today I show up and Lou greets me at the door with a flashlight. Not a good sign. So I am told the power is out (It has been mighty windy). It was about 12:20, and power was out at 12. Library opens at 1.

I got the books out of the bookdrop while calls were made to check on the power situation. So there were 4 of us total--one sitting behind desk, one on counter, one on nice stuffed chair, and me on the floor in the middle of it all. So we chatted for a bit and counted down every 5 minutes the time. We were told that if power not back by opening time, we could go home. So we had signs made and ready.
As it got closer to 1, I went outside to let people know that we probably wouldn't be opening.

Dad had taken me to work, and I couldn't get ahold of him, or Mom, So Margaret was kind enough to go out of her way and drive me home. Had a nice chat on the way.

Sure surprised Mom and Dad when they got home and I was there.

I was a little lost of what to do with myself...I was all in work work work mode. So went with Mom into Wallyworld. Fun shopping with her because I can get things out of it...some jeans and a case to put all my disks in...but she takes so freaking long to shop. Bored out of my skull.

Tomorrow, I have to get up at 6:30 (ack) and need to be at the library by 8. We are leaving for All Staff Day. It is going to be in Lacey this year--about an hour drive away, and we are carpooling. It will be fun, but a long day. Need to bring money in case I find stuff I can't live without, since there are auctions and things.

Will update on that tomorrow.

Was a busy week

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 02:34 am
evila_elf: (Default)
This last week was just crazy, as far as work goes.
Now, normally I only do 10 hours a week. Our Aide was vacationing and I was asked if I could fill in her hours on Tues, Wed, Thurs. She works 5 hours a day. So I got an extra 15 hours (and the pay is a little better--since I got the training, I can actually work as her position, if that makes sense).

Tuesdays are extremely busy. Tons of books being returned and a lot brought in with the courier fromother libraries. So I shelved for 5 hours(and did the mail and walked it to the post office). Took an hour long break. Then went back for 3 more hours to shelve books for my regular hours. Oww

Wednesday and Thursday I worked a total of 7 hours each day, though things were less busy.

On Thursday, I actually had a hard time taking the steps out of the basement because of all the bending, crawling, reaching, etc I was doing.

And, even now, I am having a hard time...not doing anything. Sitting still for more than a half hour makes me antsy. When I got home on Wednesday, I ran to get the mail and back to try to burn off some of the extra energy.

So thrilled last night to be able to say up later than 1-2, since I had to get to work at 10.

I hope that next week is nice and calm. Monday won't be...need to be in Centralia for 4 hours behind the desk training. If all goes well, I won't need to schedule another 4. Though if I get paid for it, maybe I should bumble things around a bit? ;)

I guess that is all....Hope I somewhat made sense :)
evila_elf: (House--Animated Wilson Betrayal)
Well, that just sucked, and I don't mean the awards

spoilers and things )

Prison Break tomorrow!! The previews make it look so awesome!

Working 5 extra hours on Tues-Thurs next week, and will be making about 2 bucks more than I do normally for those hours. Will be nice :D
I also need to schedule some training time in at the big library in the area...been stalling because I hate how busy it is there at times and I don't want to be behind the desk. Will have to be after next week, because of those extra hours. Waiting for an e-mail reply to that as well as to if I got in on some training classes for next month.
I love my job...we get trained for all this stuff, and we get paid for the training and the miles to get to the training spot, and the drive time.
And also next month, I am on jury duty *sigh* (see, [livejournal.com profile] michelleann68, I still remember!...so far)
Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] michelleann68, had a nice little visit with her Friday and Sunday on her way to/from Portland. Wish the Friday visit was longer, but I had to leave for work. Was 2 minutes late, but no one cared, hehe.
The City Hall building, which was next to the old library, was knocked down last Monday. So now all the junk can get cleaned up and the new library can start to be built. :D

(geeze, put me on an update page and I won't shut up!)

Need to make a seperate brother update with pics and a video or two...need to wait until a few downloads finish and I restart Pea...he is getting slow. Oh, and after the ebay item I am bidding for finishes (Sims2: Pets). Been wanting for awhile, but keep running low on money. Been outbid, so going to try a last minute bid. Last time I tried that, I got sidetracked and forgot until an hour after the fact ^.^
evila_elf: (House - Wilson--Cute)
Training is going really well.
The New Employee Orientation was a bit boring since I knew a lot of that already, but the people were nice (and there were only like 9 in the class) and for once, I seemed to be the talker of the group o.o; That has never happened before. I got some more attention for having been the only non-new person and for being involved in the library remodel project--more on that later. I used to be the shy person who wouldn't talk and would blush whenever I had the attention of the room. Er...not this time. Well, I did blush once, but that was when the 2 staff instructors were talking about this guy who looked like Richard Gere who was at one of the All Staff Days several years ago. I pointed out that I was there and was drooling over him as much as everyone else (I hadn't noticed anyone else at that time) and one of the other people pointed out that I was blushing. Lolz!

And speaking of hot:
One of the people, who was talking about accounting and finances (boring) was sooooo cuuute! Ah! I don't think I heard a word of what he said, but he sure had my attention ;) He was fairly old, though, greying at the temples. And he had glasses. I have a thing for glasses.

We went on a tour of the Service center. Saw the place where they make flyers, posters, etc, and they had this awesome paper cutter that can cut like 3 inches of paper. We all ooohed. Then we were given these little recycled paper notepads of scratchpaper, which made everyone happy, much to the staff's amusement. Doesn't take much ^.^

We got to see where all the boxes of books from other libraries are brought to be sorted to go out to other libraries--huge!!

And we got to see the carts and carts and carts of new books waiting to be stamped and processed. I was drooling and wanted to look at them all. I love my job at Chehalis, but I would leave it in a flash if I got to work with new books all day!

Those were the highlights for Tuesday.

Wednesday, I had to miss the tearing down of the old building because of more training. Drove by at 8:15, but it was still standing. If anyone wants to see pictures of the whole moving process, head here:

The newest 4 are the before and after shots.
So, the training was for Horizon, our book checkout program. I go again tomorrow and Friday. We learned how to do some searches and to check in and out. We had several breaks, so I had logged onto my e-mail and chatted with [livejournal.com profile] michelleann68 for a few minutes.
I also had to work after at Chehalis. So I went there and took a couple vids before reporting for duty. I had a book that came in, so they made me check it out myself (kind, those people) and I guess I passed, hehe.
And there are only 5 (including me) in the class.
Would talk more about it, but doubt that anyone would know what I am talking about hehe

And on top of the previous post, I am trying to stay focussed on a cowrite project with semi success (sorry, Michelle) and I signed up for a fic exchange (Idol Chris/Blake) where I am given a song and have to write a story for it. Mapped out a little of where to take it, but I am freaked it will be crap. Deadline not until end of Sept, so okay for awhile.
And I have an original story idea that has been kicking about my head for a month (a redone idea for my nanowrimo that I abandoned) and it looks like half of what I wrote is crap because I can't focus enough to give the characters personalities.
I have become to used to fanfiction, that I have forgotten how to properly describe someone you are seeing for the first time.

Jeff is still here. Been watching TV with him until past midnight at some points. And I am obsessive with keeping up on my LJ reading, so that saps up what remains of my night.

Yes...another attempt to drag my feet about reading the bloody notebook.
Oh, one more thing about it...it is a new employee orientation notebook because no one bothered to make me take the training for that when I first joined on staff. AND I was told a couple days late that I even got the sub2 position due to an error!

So...to the few people I have chatted with lately...I bottle things up well, don't I?
*sigh*

I have no idea what I have typed out here or not. So...brief summary:
A while ago I had applied to be a Sub(stitute) level 2, because it was the only way I would be able to get any training on the computers, and the pay is like 3 bucks more an hour than I am currently making.
So...I applied, got an interview, and got the job. I love having friends all over the local libraries....for some reason, they like me (muhahaha) *cough* Anyway, that out of the way.
Now I have to have the actual training. It will be at the Service Center about 45 minutes away. I don't drive on the freeway, so I have to beg rides from people. Actually, not so much begging. People are glad to drive me up there. So all covered.
Training schedule:
tues: 8-5
wed: 9-1
thurs 9-1, 2-3
fri: 9-1
Plus a few dates in a couple months.
Not a morning person, but I should live (oh, I hope)
So, after that, I need...I think it is 16 hours working at a different branch from where I am at, then I can Sub where ever. Don't think I need the other training before I can sub.
Good news, I get paid for the training at the new sub rate.
Bad news, my main job is still Page at minimum wage (sigh...after 3 years, one would expect a raise), 10 hours a week. But plenty of time to squeeze in some sub hours if I am needed. And I would be first on call to sub at where I work.
And, when we finally get the new building built, there is another circulation position that will be available. Our Aide is going to try for it, and so will I. I will feel bad if I get it over her. She hates putting books away. Said she will leave if she not get the new job. So, either way I should be a shoe-in for her position. I would have gotten it last time (well, before the position was given to her), but my boss said I needed to work on my 'people skills.' I thought I had actually came a long way from avoiding everyone in the chance that they might ask me something. Now, I can (and have, oops) spent over a half hour chatting to people at. a. time. Kinda strange going from person voted Most Shy in the yearbook to becoming a jabber box o.O

Now...I also get paid for 2 hours of my own time to read this huge freaking maual. Ooh *goes to take a picture of it:
being kind and putting behind a cut )
Which is actually why I am typing this...stalling. Dun wanna read *stomps foot*

And I am trying hard not to freak out. I have been getting headaches again every couple days, and if I get one on a training day (the early-rising not going to help) it will be Hell.

Other news to stall with...Went to see the Bourne movie again today *looks at clock* er, yesterday. I was a bit tired and almost fell asleep during a non-action scene. Actually...past almost because I was out enough to have this freaky little dream.
Love the action scenes...shows just enough for you to know what is going on. The fight in the tiny bathroom. Wow! Went with Mom this time and she had to close her eyes for the car chase because was feeling sick. Too loud in that theater. Need to rent when out on video and have her watch the scene again.

I think that is all I can babble about, for now.
Oh, the fair starts this week. Going to try to go on weekend with a friend. I am freaking broke though. Dad also wants to go and I don't think I could afford the admittance *sigh* Going to have a nice end-of-the-month paycheck at least with all the extra training hours. And I get paid mileage for the drive to the Service Center. I think it is like 20 something bucks. Most of the money needs to go to Mom...owe her way too much and the financial situation here is getting scary.

*wanders off to read the ficcy I have been saving, then to dive into notebook*

Spacing off

Isn't it fun when you are reading first time smut, filled with UST, and your mind wanders a bit. Then, when you come to, you realize you are still reading and the characters are rolling around in the bed and you have no idea how they got there? Yeah.

Okay...time for a real update I guess. Was just going to post that first paragraph up there *points* but figured 'what the hell.'

Brother, Jeff, is visiting from Japan. Touched in a few weeks ago. And I can't say anything bad about him because he reads this journal. *waves at brother*

See what I have to put up with?

I saw the HP movie opening weekend with Dad, then the next weekend with my brother, then once more with a friend. Yes, I liked it. I think it is my favorite movie. There were no parts that I was bored through at all (except the kiss....I swear, het is nasty!).
Also saw Ratatouille with Mom and Jeff. Very cute. It didn't stay in theaters long, so saw the day before it was moved out.
On Monday I went to see I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry with Aunt Trish. I had been planning to go by myself, but she wanted to do something for my bday (had been meaning to for awhile since June) so we went together. It wasn't as bad as I was fearing (extra uptight since she was there). The worst joke, actually, was towards this fat person. Lot of gay jokes, of course, but not too bad. There were a few kisses, but not between the lead actors, which was disappointing. There was a drop the soap joke (where two soaps were dropped), etc. I enjoyed it. Not really sure if Trish did or not. Her and my Uncle had just moved down here a little while ago, so they live just a few minutes away--used to live a few hours.

Was a picnic last week down in Oregon at one of my other aunt's house's I took Peacock (laptop) with me since I hate to socialize more than neccessary, and watched an episode of Torchwood with Jeff on the way down. He stayed there to ping around with his friends who live there for a week or so. He is supposed to be back around Monday.

This morning I had an interview for a Sub level 2. If I can get that position, I can finally get the computer training I need to advance from Page. Would be nice. Desperately need the money as well. I think that the interview went well.

Alsoooo. The American Idol tour was in Tacoma (only an hour or so away) this last friday. I really wanted to go to it, but yeah, lack of money and someone to drag with me. From what I've seen on youtube, it looked to be one of the better nights.

Blake Lewis performing She Will Be Loved:

And the Blake/Chris (Cake) duet:

Okay, I am done babbling :)

Yay! The phonelines were restored much faster than that one lady had said. I don't think that she knew what she was talking about.

Had fun at work with Peacock, though. One of my coworkers is thinking about getting a laptop, so was showing her things about this one. She is an American Idol fan, so I showed her Blake's Tacoma performance of 'She Will be Loved' Blake was one of her top favorites, so I am always shoving things about him her way. She's a blast to talk to, since she watches a few of the same shows I do--24, Idol, Biggest Loser, sometimes House, etc. During the programming season, we have a chat about whatever show had just aired that we both saw.
And now she is just finally starting to get into the HP books. I talked her into getting the first one, and she loved it. So instead of waiting on the lengthy waiting list for the rest, just going to loan them to her. Bringing 2 and 3 to work with me tomorrow.

Promised Library Update

evila_elf: (Alan-parrot=Carrot joke)
We are going to be closed for 2 weeks starting the 18th I believe. Which will be when we completely move out of our building and next door to the basement *shudder* We have already started to pack up things. Today, a crew of people showed up from the Service Center to go through our whole collection and grab every 2, 3 or 4th book, depending on which type, to put into storage for a year. No method behind the choosing, just grab and box. Upstairs, the childrens' section and the part where I work at, the books taken from there will be in a temp location in the building we are at and we will rotate them in as needed. Man the shelves look so bare! Kinda freaky!

This is going to be one large organized mess. With having the things in boxes and things, it just might be enough to keep me employed there for the 10-12 months until the new library is done being built. I'm the lowest on the totem pole, so I would probably be the first to have to find a temp job at another building. Joy.

I still need to get some pics before the building is torn down, but I feel funny standing outside taking snapshots
