Update time

Okay, I have been really bad about updating lately. I would normally say because it is hiatus time, but it seems I have been more busy watching shows than I do during the fall. When did that happen? Either way, I blame/thank

Uugh, it's a wonder I still remember how to do html!
Anyway, here are a few updates I have been putting off:
This was last month. I was supposed to call in and see when I needed to show up. I had gotten my days screwed up and missed one, which there was actually a trial scheduled for. Oops! I got a letter over that and called up the office. I had the option of rescheduling for another month, or trying to make what was left of this month. I choose to stick with the rest of the month. Soooo....
Next call back date and there was another trial. I had been summoned 4 times before. First three times I never had to show up because there were no trials. 4th I had to show up, but the trial was canceled while we were getting filled in on stuff.
So, were were assigned numbers. I got 7, which I was feeling wasn't very lucky. Number 1 didn't show up and the jury is 6 people.
We all were herded into the court room and sat in number order, then the plaintiff and the Defense took turns asking everyone certain questions. The ones were mostly about if anyone was effected by a DUI driver and how. Another question was if anyone really really wanted to serve lol. At this point, I was thinking 'Joy, this will be a big waste of time' figuring the guy injured someone for being drunk.
Basically 2-7 were picked for the trial. 2 guys, 4 gals. 1 lady had to serve at the previous trial earlier in the month. She not too happy.
So everyone else left us and we were shown to a tiny room where we would wait and take our breaks. We spent the next bit of time making very small talk and looking at one another. Fuuun.
Trial time: Not as simple a case as it had seemed. The DUI in this case was drugs. Prescription drugs. That the guy had been taking for depression and something else for like 10+ years. He ran off the road and his car had stalled past the ditch. Police noticed just as he was getting back to his vehicle with his dad. So we needed to determine if it was solely the drugs that had caused his 'accident'
The Plaintiff...this was her second trial. The first being the one earlier that month. She was sooo boring. She told about the drug tests and had the people on the stand tell us details on how the tests were given, then looked at pictures and gave proof that the drug results had not been tampered with -.-
We had several breaks. I think one was due to the fact that I was literally nodding off (I had gotten there at 8 and didn't get much sleep). I wished I could have asked some questions :( The only thing important I wanted to know was how long he had been taking his meds and if he had acted like that before on them.
Lunch break was an hour and a half :D I was able to zip home, cook foods, and get back with time to spare.
After lunch we fiiiinally got to hear about the length he had been taking his meds and also that he had flown back from somewhere visiting relatives and hadn't slept more than 4 hours the night before. He was making a quick trip to pick up a TV at about 10 at night.
The guy was finally called to the stand. (another thing I forgot to mention: He had been acting really doped up and failed some DUI tests at roadside performed by the cop). Not once did the Plaintiff ask the guy WHY he was acting like he had been, if he remembers that, or his take on it. All she did was grill him about his medication, how long taking (which we had all heard already), how far he drove off the road, etc.
Before both sides rested, we had an hour long recess in that little room as things were prepared. No one else had anything to do, but I had my book...until I finished it, damn.
Trial concluded, both sides rested, and we went back to the room to deliberate. The two guys were the only ones who said guilty, and it was just because they were family people who were thinking what would have happened if he had ran into someone. Our job was to find out if the drugs alone were responsible and we couldn't be 100% sure. Only took 10 minutes to get the guys to change their vote.
The guy's dad was happy, the Plaintiff was pissed and eyerolly, and we got to go home. Got home at a quarter to 6.
gin200168 wanted to see the M.C. Escher exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, as it was going to be the last weekend for it before it closed, so
michelleann68 took the new Lightrail closer to her, Gin picked her up, then picked me up after work at 5 (I'm about an hour and a half away). We ate dinner at Applebees, which was close, then off we went. Michelle's brother lives in Portland with his wife and two kids, so we were going to crash there for the weekend.
I've heard lots about the kids, Fiona and Kate, from Michelle talking/posting about them, so it was nice to be able to put faces to the names :D
OMG their house is huge!
We got there late Friday. Too late to do anything but visit.
On Saturday, we went to the Farmer's Market, then the Museum. I like this museum much better than the one in Seattle, as far as the art goes :D
Sunday, we took the kids to Stepping Stone Cafe. Had went there a few weeks previous with Michelle when we went to the Kane concert. It took all 5 of us to eat the Mancake. Then we went to the zoo. I'll post pictures and go into more detail later about the zoo...running low on time and energy), then we wandered around looking for a patch of Portland that Gin wanted. No one had one o.O. Then we went back to the house for a quick lunch, then back home.
Fun weekend, but it seemed to zip by!
I actually wrote a fic :D (I wrote this and the last entry in the left over steam of fic writing). It is a SPN RPS one. Only my second in that fandom. Seems I can only write them (or anything lately) if I do it in one sitting. I need to read it several more times to make sure it isn't crap before I post it. My normal betas - one isn't in the fandom, and the other hates death fics (yes, I was mean to one of them *evil cackle*) So expect that up in a day or two...less than 1k words.
