Almost forgot! Here is a small bit of the beginning of the sequel to Goodbye isn't Forever:
The Last Goodbye
PART 1
BJ was feeding Erin, Peg looked on, watching her stubborn family, both with oatmeal on their faces. The doorbell rang and she walked to the door, glancing over her shoulder.
The man she found at the door was red-eyed and his clothes were rumpled and looked like they had been slept in. A couple days worth of stubble added to his ragged appearance. He suddenly tipped forward and Peg screeched for her husband as she caught the stranger before he fell across the threshold.
BJ ran to his Peg’s side and helped pull the man off of her. The familiar man. “New meaning to the term ‘drop by,’ Hawkeye. You okay, Peg?”
“So this is Hawkeye. I thought he chased women, not fell on them,” she joked, recovering from the scare of her life with ease.
“Formal introductions later.” He picked up his friend and went to deposit him on the couch, while Peg rushed to the angry Erin who was throwing a fit as well as her oatmeal.
BJ patted Hawkeye on the face and got a moan for an answer and his hand swatted away. He wasn’t drunk, and that was both a relief and a worry. It took some more coaxing before Hawk finally cracked open his eyes. “Beej?”
BJ sighed his relief. “Hawk, what happened?”
“Everything,” he whispered. “I ran away from home.”
He had to lean in to catch the soft words. “When?”
“What day is it?”
“Friday.”
“Tuesday.”
“Have you eaten?”
“Can’t remember.”
BJ winced. He wanted to scold Hawkeye, but figured that that was the last thing he needed. “We just finished feeding Erin. There is some leftover oatmeal…”
“I travel across the whole US of A and you offer me leftover oatmeal?” He closed his eyes and tried not to succumb to the darkness that lurked there. “Thirsty.”
“We have fresh orange juice.”
Hawkeye nodded, eyes still closed.
TBC hopefully
Feel lucky, I was just planning on posting the first 4 paragraphs :P
