Laptop!!

Been meaning to jabber about this forever, but wanted to get things squared away...I think that jumping around for joy too soon can be bad luck. Anyways *cough*

A few weeks ago, I was playing on the Dell site, look at computers and things. Every once and awhile I build one up to price check. michelleann68 sent me a discount notification, so I went to play again. The main thing that was keeping me from buying one was that I didn't qualify for their Dell card so I could make payments and my credit card only has a 500 dollar limit on it. And I can't afford to pay the whole at once.
But I checked and I did qualify for the card since I had had my cc for awhile and had recently set up a checking account (I swear, mentally I am like 16...just starting to feel a little independent), so I DID qualify for the card! Quick check with parents and a day of thinking, and I bought it :D

Got it last friday, but the router was sent seperately so I had to wait on that. After I got it, I pretty much watched a few things (I wasn't able to play avi files on my old computer, so I had some saved for whenever I got a new one) and playing Sims2. I had bought it on the off chance it would play with computer (it didn't) but it works great on laptop! Word of warning...playing it 5 hours straight makes you see the sims when you close your eyes. Kinda freaky. I created a House and Wilson and a Blake and Chris. And, for fun, a single parent with 2 babies, 3 children, and 2 teenagers. The parent had a nervous breakdown, the children were playing with the fridge and the babies were playing in the toilet...all within the first 10 minutes. heh..oops!
Moving on...
I just got the router, finally! today. Problem? Of course. My computer has been dragging it's...feet(?) about getting replaced. The only cable that the router came with was an ethernet one, and my computer doesn't have a port for that...So I had to hunt down a...thingy that would allow me to use it with a usb port. I called Staples. They were out. Said shipment maybe on Sat and they were 30 bucks. I called Wally world and they said they had some 10-20 bucks. So I drove out there only to find that the guy didn't know what he was talking about and that they didn't carry them. I did end up chatting to this nice employee who talked about everything from Pirates of Carribean to Anime to role playing to live acton role playing, to conventions to other online games....etc. He was a blast, but it was getting close to work time and I still needed to get some things done. I asked him if Radio Shack might carry what I need and he grimmaced, said no, and that they were horrible for making you buy things you didn't need. I also asked him if 30 was around the price that they would be and he said yes. So I picked up some blank disks (eager to try out the DVD burner that this comes with) and was on my way...

...to Radio Shack. Yes. Desperate and it was only a little bit away. AND THEY HAD IT! Same price as Staples. After making sure I could get money back if not work, I bought it, then made a stop for Mom, then went to work.

After freaking out some because it needed to be installed on computer (my computer hates new things on it and likes to refuse at times) but I got that set up and ran the program to get the internet set up on laptop. I clicked last button to have it search for the router...router not found. I switched cables around. Still nada. One more switch. Nada. So I canceled out of it and searched for something to make a connection to...and my router showed up on that list! Odd, but Yay!

So...I am on laptop. Now.
Keeping old computer for emergencies. Have dumped the keyboard on the floor, so the new home of laptop when I am not carting it around is on the keyboard stand.
And I am attempting to burn first disk now. Question...if I put the computer in sleep mode, will the burning continue? I doubt it will finish before bedtime.

Only thing I miss...the scroll wheel on the mouse. I used that for everything!

Promised Library Update

We are going to be closed for 2 weeks starting the 18th I believe. Which will be when we completely move out of our building and next door to the basement *shudder* We have already started to pack up things. Today, a crew of people showed up from the Service Center to go through our whole collection and grab every 2, 3 or 4th book, depending on which type, to put into storage for a year. No method behind the choosing, just grab and box. Upstairs, the childrens' section and the part where I work at, the books taken from there will be in a temp location in the building we are at and we will rotate them in as needed. Man the shelves look so bare! Kinda freaky!

This is going to be one large organized mess. With having the things in boxes and things, it just might be enough to keep me employed there for the 10-12 months until the new library is done being built. I'm the lowest on the totem pole, so I would probably be the first to have to find a temp job at another building. Joy.

I still need to get some pics before the building is torn down, but I feel funny standing outside taking snapshots
