Well, about 5 minutes after my last post, I was hunting around for a movie trailer that I could view of that movie. All I could find was one that required the newest quicktime player, which is only for Windows2000+ grrr. I was grumbling about that when the lights flickered. Then the power went out. Now, it had been raining all day, so there were dark clouds...in other words, it was PITCH black. Could not see a damn thing!
Mom was somewhere in the hallway, as she had been talking to be about something insignificant. I slowly stood up and inched my way towards the door. Then veeerry slowly down the hallway. I was reaquanting myself with the coat tree at the end of the hall when Mom finally found a flashlight. After we were both fully armed with light, we opened up the front door to let the dog out. The wind was blowing super hard! I started laughing hysterically. *That* is why the power went out!! Mom said it wasn't funny, so I laughed harder.
We are surrounded by trees at this place, and had yet to see a hard wind in the half year we have been here, so we had no idea if the flimsy trees would hold up. Limbs were cracking everywhere! Dad stole some gas from the lawnmower to get the generator running and he hooked up some lights to it so we could see better. I grabbed a vanilla scented candle and lit it in my bedroom. Hard to see by, but yet another thing to amuse myself with.
Plugged a radio into an extension cord and trailed it into the hallway and blasted country music, occassionally singing and dancing around. (I think the candle had gotten to me, but they are more fun than flashlights!)
Phone rang a lot with relatives who were trying to see who had power or not. One grandparent had their greenhouse blow away (small one), and another lost the canopy that hung over the porch. Listening to the updates on the radio, and it was said in some places, winds got up to 50-80mph! and power outtages were popping up all over.
Oh, and mom dressed herself, and got her shirt on inside out! *que more laughing*
After an hour or more, the fire alarms beeped loudly--scaring the crap out of me--and the power came back on. I peeped outside and there are tree limbs everywhere.
Mom, mood now equalling pissy, ordered me to track down all the plugged in extension cords since they were trailing everwhere. As I went to take care of one, she yelled at me to pick them up. Oi. Fun time was over.
Most excitement over here in awhile. Glad it didn't happen on a day when something important was on TV! Our generator is too weak to handle the TV and VCR. Maybe I can talk him into buying another one :D
