Wow, a lot has happened over the last 3 days. Now that I have finally gotten a decent night's sleep, I shall tell you alllll about it! (Come on, you know you are thrilled :P)
Maybe I am more tired than I thought, almost forgot how to make a lj cut!!
Okay, Saturday:
Heidi took me to the DMV so I can take my test to make strides towards getting my license. I had to get up around 8 because the place isn't open for very long. Took tons of paper shuffling to get the 5 pieces of ID needed to make a positive identification that I am me. Had to call Dad and get him in because he counted as one, hehe. Well, took the test and missed 3. I think if you miss 4 or 5 you have to retake it. Stupid trick questions. Cost 20 bucks too. But now I also got my permit renewed so I can legally drive with my Dad. Been driving illegally for over a year! *whistles innocently* Now I just need to dig up another 20 bucks and take the drive test, and hopefully pass without crashing into anything.
Sunday
The Centralia library is open on Sundays again and I signed up several months ago to do every other Sunday. I work 5 hours and get paid for 8. Extra money=awesome :D 12:30 to 5:30. Despite being exhaused from yesterday because I can't fall asleep any earlier than 3 it seems, I had a crappy night's sleep. Least I didnt walk into any bookshelves. That morning they had trimmed a bush outside the building so we all got to march home with these plant clippings. 0.o Mine is soaking in water to see if we can get some roots started.
Monday
All Staff Day! Get paid for having fun! Had to get up at 6. Went to bed at midnight and couldn't sleep *cries* Set alarm for 6:30(hehe). When it went off, I turned it off and closed my eyes...then fell back asleep! Mom woke me at 7 when she woke up. Shit! I fell outta bed and had to hurry to get ready by 8, which is when Donna was going to pick me up.
Ah, where to start?...
Got there at 8:30 for breakfast, which I didn't eat. Already ate a bit before I came. Plus large crowds make me too jittery to eat. Found the people from Chehalis and sat over by them. Someone gave an opening speech that I have no idea what was said. Then we got to split up into the scheduled sessions we signed up for.
The first one I was in was "Hot new teen fiction" where these three ladies were talking about all these new books that were out. There was a nice colored pamphlet that we all got with about 100 books, pictures, and summaries. The books they were able to get ahold of from the list, we were able to check out. I almost ran over several people after it was over with to get to one of the books. I doubt I had to worry about anyone checking it out though. It is called Geography Club. It is about a group of gay teens who want to have a private club in their school. They call it the Geography Club because who would want to be in that club? hehe. I haven't read much yet, but it is in first person and very well written. Another one that sounded interested was Boy2Girl. I think it is about this boy who has to prove his friendship to these guys. And to do that he has to start out his new school year as a girl. I think this goes on for quite awihle and like the school jock tries hitting on him. They didn't have a copy there, but I placed a hold on it. Sounds hilarious!
The second session I took was I think about helping customers find books by giving suggestions. The auditorium that we were in was divided into 4 sections, one in each corner...large gap in between. Our speaker had a soft voice...two of the other classes were laughing loudly every 5 minutes and one of them we heard sing a chanting poem o.0 I could understand every word...but I couldn't hear a damn thing the teacher said. A few words here and there and when someone commented that was near me, but that was it. I ended up having a conversation with Coleen, one of my coworkers who happened to be in the same group. The lady next to me left in the middle for a very long bathroom break. Was surprised she came back. Now I wish I had taken the graphic novel session :( Heard it was a good speaker who had drawn/written quite a few popular ones.
After that we broke for lunch which was 20 minutes late. I packed some chees-its and ate those instead of lunch lol. While we waited, a silly little skit was shown on a projector.
Finally it was time for our next speakers up on stage, where we all got to have a listen. Turns out, it was these two guys who draw a daily comic called unshelved. I think they mainly publish on the internet. I think their site is www.unshelved.com One of the guys did most of the talking, but they have been doing this comic for years and their fanbase is huge on the internet. They talked for over an hour, closer to an hour and a half and were great fun to listen to. We got to hear some library horror stories that were inspiration for some of the comics. I can't really ramble on about what they said, because it just isn't funny second person :P
After they were done talking, they had their books up for sale and signed them for us! I had to borrow 40 bucks from Donna to buy them. Gotta pay her back soon. The guy who draws them drew a different character for each of the books, put our names and signed it, along with his friend.
After that, sad to see it end, we had a live auction. Librarians are competitve! A blackberry pie (homemade) sold for 55 bucks--food is a weak spot. A weekend stay in a cabin raised 210 bucks and the seller added another weekend for the person who was outbid. A pencil drawing got close to 100 bucks. Combined with the silent auction that went on during lunch, we earned around 1,700 for the hurricane survivors.
After the auction, awards were given out. Lou, who subs at Chehalis and who I work with on Sundays, was awarded something, but he had already left! I shall razz him about that next time I see him, lol! Probably thought he could leave without being noticed! Ha!
Nothing too much happened afterwards. During a smaller speech that was boring, the people at our table was playing with confetti that was sprinkled over the table. I nabbed a few little stars and glued one to my name tag when I got home. Amused Trish when I showed her today. Had a raffle before we left then...we left.
By about 7 I was almost asleep and had a terrible headache. Started to wake up when I got on the computer at 11pm. Stayed on until 2 and was able to sleep until 10 this morning.
Earned over a hundred bucks for Sunday and Monday, yay :D
Oh, and because of all that trying to go to bed early, I wasn't able to watch any QAF for 3 days. Made up for that last night and tonight. :D
Well, off to go read my flist. That should keep me busy for a couple hours :D
