I didn't mind how dark it was, but I mainly found the dialogue horrible. Some actors can save bad dialogue, these ones couldn't imo.
With all the superhero movies, what I enjoy most about them is the characters discovering their powers and learning how to control them, which lets us get to know the characters better. There was very little of that.
The way he kept going on about 'you're not my real parents' made me instantly dislike him. I needed to feel a bond between them for that line to really drive home. And the way he didn't attempt to save his dad - grr! So easy to have pretended to be a normal person and still saved him.
And too many building smashing. Felt like they leveled a city.
