There are no doubt a number of places that will take old electronics for safe disposal (ask your librarian!) but if it still works, even barely, you might also want to consider either finding a charity that refurbishes them and gives them to the needy or something (I think it's called Free Geeks in Portland, for example), or steampunking it. I've still got my old laptop at my parents' house (which I'm on now) so I have my own box there, but also because I'd like to mod it. We'll see if that ever really happens, but it's a neat idea.
