Well, I am back and finally have the energy to try to post about my little "Trip." I will put it under a cut to keep from needlessly boring you, though I will try to make it at least a little bit interesting with even less confusing--stuff. Looking at this paragraph, I'm not sure if I will be able to pull it off :-/

First off...daaaaang there were a lot of people there, over 200 I would guess, though I suck at guessing things like that *cough*

I carpooled with 3 other people--boss and 2 co-workers. We left the library at 8:00 and got to the place, at the Thurston Fairgrounds, at 8:45. 15 minutes for a wierd breakfast they had...then we crammed into a room, got our tickets for doorprizes, signed in, and got a free button (mine is a summer reading one dated 2002), and sat down. I don't really remember much of what was told to us while we listened. My lack of sleep was getting to me (as usual when I set my alarm clock, I wake up a half hour before it rings)...*still trying to remember what was said....* We were given a brief run down of the schedule, where to go, when auctions were, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah....

Next we split up to go to classes we signed up for. My first one sucked. We got to read a silly children's book about "Who really sunk the boat." All these fat animals and it was the mouse who's added weight sunk it...But we were all given a tub of water, pennies, alum. foil, and other wierd stuff to play with...There were a few action figures that we made foil boats for them...(Picture, this is a room with 18 people in it that are about twice my age, playing in water tubs.)
Moving on...
Break time. I looked at some of the silent auction items, nothing too interesting, then I went to my next class...It was how "To Write the perfect memo, speech of service story." Kinda neat. The guy talking was a local playwrite who had been writing plays for 30 years, and most of what he talked about was writing stories. (He was cute too, so that helped lol) One of the neatest things he said was in the form of three steps:
1: Run the Hero up a tree
2: Throw rocks at the Hero
3: Hero falls from tree--does he land on his head or his feet?

After that, we went back to the auditorium. Our yearly theme was Lewis and Clark. And a running theme was what they would do if they had a library card. A Cardboard cutout was sent around to 5 different libraries...I remember walking into the staff room and the cutout almost gave me a heart attack! But pictures were taken and a slide show via power point was given, complete with narration for the cutouts a'la their journal. That, I do believe, has to be one of the funniest things I have seen in my life! "We came across children, fixated on an object...it glowed, but gave no warmth,"...Okay, you'd have to have been there to find that funny lol. Also music bits as it showed the figures peeping out from a van window "Music--on the road again, as well as other songs like hitching a ride, and little duce coupe"
We were also entertained by the dancing cows (scary), something else, then we broke for lunch.
Well, I was stupidly not hungry (I have eating problems...I have a limited food "vocabulary," so to speak..don't feel like getting into it at this time.") and nothing looked good except for this brownie cake thingy I nibbled on.

Then, in same lunch room area, we had the live auction where funds were used for library fund raising. MY boss spent 80 bucks on a pillow (I admit it was nice), a picture of a flower, and some chocolates. She felt bad cause she outbidded her boss lol. After that this guy by the name of Rex Ziak, a local writer and historian, took the stage. Man, he was amazing!! He wrote and self published a book on Lewis and Clark when he found out some information, by his own research, that none of the histories had gotten right. He said "History repeats itself, and historians repeat each other." He talked for well over an hour, every minute of which I enjoyed. He spent over 20 years doing research and writing the book. He also had a neat little map and used post-it stickie notes that he moved around to point out what he was talking about. That was unique! Now, I am not a fan of L&C, or really even care that much, but I do plan on trying to find his book and reading it. Damn! he was good!

Next *shudder* some guy who talked about how washington was once populated by the Spanish, how more and more spanish people are coming back here, speaking spanish in the library...No disrespect to Mexicans, but this guy was not one bit interesting. He did make the mike squeak several time and everyone laughed more than was needed about that. I almost fell asleep and fell outta my chair! I was dead for the rest of the day because of that boring speach that almost put me into a coma!!
We finished up the rest of the auctions, checked our raffle numbers (needless to say I didn't win), awards were handed out...there was this lady who had been working in the library for 25 years and she was 96!! She didn't look near that old! Also another lady had been working for 50 years! You get an award every 10 years...guess it is something to work towards lol.

Then I think we went home. I almost fell over getting out of the van...lack of food (been about 8 hours since I had eaten a light breakfast), but I still was't hungry...hate it when I get like that. Still not hungry, but I did eat some potatoes for dinner.

There ya have it, my semi-exciting/semi-boring day....at least I get paid for it :) And as usual at social events, I met no one. I was introduced to several people, but I will never remember them if I see them again. Someone did notice I was new this year and come over and say hi...Pretty much I talked to Michelle (she started work at our library 2 months ago) and the other 3 from my library....I was clingy and made sure one of them was in sight at all times...except for the 2nd class, no one I knew was in there.

Okay, done now lol...finally!
